Convert Mile to Meter

The mile has its origins in ancient Rome, where it was defined as 1,000 paces (Latin "mille passus", meaning "thousand paces"). A pace was considered to be the distance covered by one step of a soldier, approximately 5 feet. The meter has since been redefined multiple times as measurement technology improved, and in 1983, it was defined using the speed of light, a constant of nature, ensuring its precision and stability.
