The unit is named after Sir Isaac Newton (1643–1727), an English mathematician, physicist, and astronomer who made significant contributions to classical mechanics and the study of forces. The newton as a unit was officially adopted in 1948 by the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) as part of the International System of Units (SI).
Atmosphere Technical
The technical atmosphere (at) is a unit of pressure defined as 1 kilogram-force per square centimeter (kgf/cm²). It is not an SI unit but is used in some engineering contexts.
The technical atmosphere was introduced to provide a convenient unit for pressure measurements in engineering. It is defined as 1 kgf/cm², which is approximately equal to 98.0665 kPa.
